Dear Fellow SKALleagues,

I'm very proud to be your new President and hope to be as effective as the many great past presidents of Skal International Miami.

Our March event on the Biscayne Lady was a huge success. The weather was perfect and there was no rain in sight while we cruised Biscayne Bay. Elvis was a hit while he sang to the ladies at the tables. Kudos to Chef Clifton and the entire Biscayne Lady staff for making our evening a tasty and memorable night. With the help of Phelps Hope, the special awards given to Heinz Langfeld and Jerry Eastep were a huge success. We had close to 150 people on the ship, and many potential new members enjoyed the evening with us.

Membership renewals seem to be coming in at a steady pace.

We look forward to a prosperous 2011 with many new and exciting venues in our line up. I'm looking forward to seeing you all in April at Ramon Antello's restaurant at the Hilton Bentley Miami South Beach. The month of May will find us enjoying an evening at Fisher Island, so mark your calendars now!

2011 Installation Dinner

Phelps Hope, Region IV Vice President installs Captain Haley Sofge as new 2011 President

Newly installed officers: Barry Alipour Treasurer; Captain Haley Sofge, President; and Lupe Castillo,Vice President.


The club was honored to have Region IV Vice President Phelps Hope present at the March Installation Dinner aboard the Biscayne Lady to officially install your club Officers for 2011. VP Phelps presented Captain Haley with the President’s chain and pinned the other officers; Lupe Castillo – Vice President, David Ross - Secretary, and Barry Alipour Treasurer.

President Haley with the assistance of Region IV Vice President Phelps Hope made two special presentations. The first award was presented to Skalleague Heinz Langfeld recognizing his 55 years of continuous service with Skal International beginning in 1955 in Germany.  Along with the presentation of a plaque marking the event, VP Phelps also read a personal letter from Skal International President Tony Boyle to Heinz thanking him for his long and dedicated service.

A special  award was also given to Executive Secretary Treasurer Jerry Eastep making him an Honorary President of Skal International Miami. VP Phelps presented Jerry with a plaque reading in part “For Outstanding leadership and exemplifying the true spirit of Skal International.

In addition to the installation President Haley also inducted our newest member Ramon Reyes into the Miami Club.
